Dolau Canol is an ancient building with lots of charm. What you see is a typical 19th century Teifi Valley farmhouse but if you look carefully inside, you will discover bits of something much older; the remains of an early timber framed “clom” (cob) thatched longhouse. The house lies within a few yards of the River Teifi, famous for its game fishing and now a Special Area of Conservation recognising its international importance for conserving biodiversity.
Dolau Canol, surrounded by pastoral farmland, is set in the heart of an historic rural estate that has remained in the same family for over three hundred years. The old farmyard, bounded by the house and stone barns, is now a lawn with its pond in one corner. (It isn’t very deep but do take care if you are bringing small children.)
Inside, the farmhouse you will find plenty of traditional Welsh textiles on the walls and beds. If you want to see a truly astonishing array of early Welsh Quilts and Blankets, and antiques for sale you should visit Jen’s Welsh Quilts and Blankets Shop in the little 18th century cottage at Pont-brendu.
The farmhouse can sleep up to 6 people:
2 Double bedrooms
2 Single bedrooms (1on the ground floor)
